What Should I Be Posting in January?
As we've hit the new year (Happy New Years by the way!), it's a great time to reset and consider what type of content you are posting on social media to start 2025. But what should that look like? Often the construction and agriculture sectors are a bit slower during these first few months of the year, and posting can go stale. Our default setting when things get slow (or less interesting), is to stop posting until things get "back to normal". But this is the wrong way to think. You need to keep being consistent. But we also have to see things from our followers standpoint...
Think about what these last two months have consisted of - Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday (and in Canada you can add Boxing Day to that list). For the past eight weeks, people have been constantly sold to and they have been spending money what seems like, every day. People are tired of the sales pitch and they're tired of spending money. January is the time for a lot of people to recoup and relax the spending back to normal.
So what does that mean for you and your social media activity? For us and our clients, we are using January to step away from selling and focus on entertaining and story telling. Give your followers a break from being sold to, and allow them to immerse themselves in your content.
Agriculture Companies
As an agricultural company, you have a perfect opportunity to utilize animals and people to connect to your followers emotions. Below are some examples of some of the things we will be doing that you can implement too!
Show cute and/or funny videos of animals. Possibly turn them into a meme, utilize trending content or audio, and focus on making your followers smile.
Tell stories about how you live out your company values. Use real examples that show what is important to you as a business and aim to personalize your brand.
Highlight customers or employees. If you're highlighting a customer, focus on an inspiring story that touches the hearts of your followers. If you're highlighting an employee, let their personality shine through and show your followers how awesome your people are!
Animals will always engage emotion with animal lovers!
Construction Companies
As a construction company, you have amazing spaces to show off that trigger emotions. Utilize well finished photos and video to capture people's emotions. Use vibrant spaces, moody spaces, or light spaces to engage those emotions.
Show great before and after photos. Pick a few projects from your last few years, and show off what you've done. You aren't directly selling anyone, but you're allowing your followers to dream about what they could have.
Tell stories about what you believe is important in construction and make sure you are in the video. Because construction is such a visual industry, we can often hide away from the camera and only show off our projects. Use January as a time to show your followers the faces behind your brand and allow them to connect with you through their screen.
Highlight the upcoming projects you have for the coming months. Get your followers excited to follow along for the next few months. In construction, new projects are always exciting, so show completed readings, design boards, or blueprints of upcoming jobs to get people excited with you.
Renderings can get your followers excited to watch your next project come to life!
So what will your social media content look like in January? Don't go stale. Don't go quiet. Entertain your followers. Tell them a compelling story. Do those things and they won't get tired of your content. Others are going to continue to sell online with new 2025 products or prices and they are going to be ignored. Be the one that stands out by doing the opposite and being the place they come for enjoyment.
